Product Overview
This device improves instrument sustain, frequency response and return to zero tuning stability. Guitars employing the Claw Loc Resonator have improved frequency coupling throughout the instrument's range, making it more impactful in the mix.
The resonator plate and spring locking claw add 2.2 oz. of mass to the core of the instrument, where it is most heavily mortised (routed out). The mass reintroduction and enhanced mechanical coupling between vibrating strings and the instrument body are responsible for these audible improvements. Decades of development have been invested in bridge technologies but the spring cavity has not been reviewed since the 1950s.
The Claw Loc Resonator kit includes:
- Resonator plate - CNC cut, tapped and engraved from 6061 aluminium.
- Spring Locking Claw - CNC shaped and tapped from 6061 aluminium.
- All required stainless steel fasteners.
- Installation instructions.
Specs:
- Resonator plate - 3 5/8" long x 2" wide x 1/8" thick (NOTE: To insure fit; make sure your guitar's spring cavity is 3 5/8" long or more).
- Locking Claw - 7/16" tall x 2" wide x 1" long x 1/8" thick.
- Total kit weight - 2.2oz.
Issues and their improvements:
In the traditional fulcrum tremolo system, the bridge fulcrum point screws and the spring retaining claw screw heads are the only direct resonance pathways for vibrating the string's energy into the guitar body and neck, even the connection of the springs to the claw provided minimum mechanical coupling for sound wave energy to pass, a more efficient resonant pathway for vibrating string's energy into guitar body and neck became the quest. "Knowing you have a problem brings you the first step closer to solving it".
The first improvement was found in the development of the "Resonator Plate" as a method to attach the standard Fender(TM) claw; which addresses multiple purposes:
- The resonator plate provides multiple attachment location points for the claw; needed in tension adjustments of the tremolo system.
- It expands the claw's transfer area of vibrating string's energy into the guitar body and neck.
- It adds mass to the most significantly important area of the guitar; its core, which has the most wood removed.
- Prevents the claw from moving in any way when the tremolo system is activated which increases the instrument; returns to zero; tuning stability.
- Improves physical appearance of guitar tremolo cavity.
- The second improvement was found in the development of the "Spring Locking Claw" which further improved the resonance coupling objective.
- The "Spring Locking Claw" provides greatly expanded mechanical coupling between the face of the claw and the tremolo springs.
- The springs are locked to claw face with the compression provided by the screw and adjoining washer.
- The "Spring Locking Claw" adds additional mass to the guitar core over that provided by a standard flange steel claw.
- Prevention of the potential movement of springs in any way when the tremolo system is activated.
- Also improves the physical appearance of the tremolo spring cavity.
The L-Guitar - Claw Loc Resonator - retrofit kit is all-inclusive and relatively easy to install, it can be done in tandem with your next new set of strings or by just loosening the string. A Phillips screwdriver and soldering iron (or crimping pliers) can get the job done. There is 1 and a 1/4 inch available via the claw locking positions for tremolo system adjustment. Positions 1 and 2 work for Fender-style tremolo systems 3, 4, and 5 for after-market floating tremolo systems with smaller bridge blocks.
