1979 Fender USA International Series Stratocaster, in great condition for a 44 year old guitar. Tuners, body, neck, hardware and pickups are original…. The pickups are the Dan Smith x1 models which are highly sought after. Pots have been changed but the switch appears original, previous owner has shielded the guitar with a combination of shielding paint and foil. Looking in the neck pocket there is evidence of some Monaco Yellow but the red finish on the guitar looks factory but has a bit more Metallic in it... its almost a Candy Apple/Burgundy Mist, may be a factory refin (as the paintwork in 79-81 was sometimes "interesting" from the factory!!) or a very, very good aftermarket refin... either way it looks great!
There is a strange modification to the heel of the neck on this…. I have seen this a couple of times before on these 3 bolt neck models… they used to have a reputation for the neck moving around in the neck pocket so it looks like someone has cut a shelf in the heel to allow the neck to butt up to the body to stop this… it’s a bit excessive but it was one of the myriad of things people used to do in the 80’s!! It also appears that the pickup routes have been enlarged. Mark on pickguard as pictured.
Additionally it looks like the tuners may have been replaced and the originals reinstalled at some point. Another scratch plate has been fitted previously as evidenced by the additional screw holes under the plate but the original is in place.
Sound and plays immense as only a vintage fender can….. not a typical boat anchor either!
Comes with original case (damaged hinge but still functional)
